Full disclosure, we are Time Doctor! We do our best to build out the features and options that are most useful for our customers so naturally we’ll have the largest feature set that we feel is important. Unlike Hubstaff, Time Doctor doesn’t charge extra for client data access, integrations, payroll, or scheduling features. Time Doctor makes a good Hubstaff alternative thanks to the distraction control pop ups and reminders that help keep users on task as they work. We also have absent and late reports to help keep workers operating during their peak hours and make it easy for them to communicate time off needs.
As a Hubstaff alternative, Sapience has fewer integrations, but that doesn’t matter if it has the one you need. Time in Sapience is not tracked on a task or in a project but is categorized based on what app or website was being used. This means it can be more automated and requires less user interaction than with Hubstaff. Sapience allows for greater granularity in website and application tracking categorization, and offers server side monitoring which is rather unique.
If you need automatic time capture, website blocking, or productivity popups, then Rescuetime is going to be an improvement over Hubstaff. In many other areas, Hubstaff comes out ahead, such as keyboard & mouse monitoring and screenshot capturing. Don’t let the small number of direct integrations fool you though. Rescuetime integrates with Zapier which opens up many other integration options – this is why it’s a solid choice as an alternative to Hubstaff.
Proofhub has no desktop tool, so the monitoring data it can collect is limited. Some consider this as an advantage though as there is nothing to install, and you can track time right from inside a web browser. Hubstaff requires that you track time from the desktop application. Proofhub also lets you customize the task and project names, whereas Hubstaff only lets you customize the project name. Another big advantage as a Hubstaff alternative for time tracking comes from its affordable project based pricing. You can have unlimited users working on up to 10 projects for just $15 per month. Proofhub is more of a complete project management tool than a time tracker so it does some things very well and suffers in other areas.
PrimaERP has a name that’s impossible to pronounce, but it also has very strong client invoicing, billing, and payroll features. Like Proofhub, the time tracking features are web-based only for better or worse. Compared to Hubstaff, this will leave you without screenshots and web & app usage data but it will make it easier for you and your team to add and track time since there is no installation required. PrimaERP is also completely free for up to three users forever, and lets you fully customize both tasks and projects. It does have an API, but Hubstaff’s integrations are much more diverse.
This Hubstaff alternative focuses more on the project management than monitoring aspects of time tracking. ClickTime does a very good job at matching its language to the existing workflow in your company, and it also has even more integrations than Hubstaff. The time tracker accuracy does suffer with ClickTime because the default method of adding time is manual time entry additions – there is no way to track time live on a desktop app. As with Proofhub, tracking time in a web browser may be seen as a positive depending on your use case, so long as you don’t need the screenshot or web & app data. The ClickTime company dashboard is great, and can be rearranged to suit.
Staff.com is a bit different as it’s focused more on in-office time tracking and time analytics for non-remote staff members. There is an option for an interactive version of the tool (so the user can choose tasks or projects), or you can use it in “silent mode” where no user interaction is required. Like Hubstaff, Staff.com can capture screenshots and keyboard & mouse activity. Staff.com is stronger when it comes to categorizing productive time use accross an endless sea of websites and applications. The Staff.com API is powerful but new, so the integrations are lacking as of this writing. The main Staff.com dashboard is also fantastic as it shows all the most important, actionable productivity analytics at a glance.
